Wedding Begging Poem

I got married to my wonderful wife nearly five years ago. We went to loads of wedding fairs, saw lots of wonderful things, and picked each other up off the floor when we found out how expensive everything was. So, we looked at little ways to cut costs, and one of them involved printing our own invites (very tasteful, laser printed, curly fonts, expensive paper, coloured ribbons, wax seal... very sophisticated). We included a fun little poem indicating our preference for cold hard cash instead of gifts, which is an idea we'd nicked from somewhere. I'm sure 75% of the below is repurposed from other sources, but I can't quite remember where those bits end and my bits start, so here is our version incase someone else wants to do the same.

We do not have a gift list,
we’ve got our pots and pans.
Our life is pretty sorted.
We’ve inked out all our plans!

We thank you for your presence,
to celebrate our day.
Your love is all we really need,
to send us on our way.

But if the mood should take you,
and you feel a little flash,
put on a cheque "C. Thomas"
we'd love a gift of cash!

The honeymoon's expensive.
The three kids bleed us dry!
Please don't be too offended, that
we gave this verse a try!

I don't like shopping

I hate shopping.

My wife and I were in Primark. I'd already been phone-zombying on her shirt tails for a good five minutes when she dragged me from my cyber reverie...

Wife: Balls!

She had spotted some Harry Potter branded Christmas decorations. A four pack of baubles.

Me: You want Harry Potter's balls dangling on our tree?
Wife: Let's have a pair.

She picked up two packs.

Me: Technically that will be four pairs...

Hello

Hi there! I am Chris Thomas, 40ish year old computer nerd, husband and grandfather, located in Shropshire, UK.

There have been a few nerdy things recently that I've needed to keep a written note about... a few different Raspberry Pi install steps, mostly to do with rebuilding my magic mirror and getting that operational again (after the power supply took a dive and fried the original SD card), but rather than keep notes in a text file in some obscure directory on my pc, forever to languish in obscurity, I thought I'd write them up so that other people who are interested or Googling for similar problems in the future could find them and maybe my experiences will help. I could find a relevant forum to post these things, but then I'd have to keep track of all sorts of website links and logins and passwords, and to be honest I just can't be arsed.

Plus, with my own public blog, I can also show off the magic mirror build pictures, publish a few other silly things as they cross my mind (or when I find them, buried in the deep recesses of my hard disk), and maybe even vent my spleen as the UK is driven to destruction over the Brexit cliff edge.

Do feel free to join in and ask questions or comment, especially if it's to blow hot air up my ass and tell me how great I am.😉
